Wongajong works to bring more profit to both First-cross and Prime-lamb breeders. This is achieved by having lambs with superior growth and fertility, by ensuring that the genetics of those lambs are identified and by advertising First-cross breeders who use Wongajong $uperBorder$ rams.
Breeders who have First-cross lambs for sale that have been bred from Wongajong $uperBorder$ include:
David Adams, "Kindamindy" Deniliquin, breeds approx 500 First-cross lambs annually from "Wongajong $uperBorder$ Rams". They are from Riverina Station ewes. The lambs are April-May drop and are available for delivery late October, when they average close to 50kg. Contact David direct on 03 5884 6612.
Mick Griffin, Lake Rowan, Victoria, breeds approx 350 first-cross ewes annually, from the best of the Wongajong rams. They are available for private sale in Feb-March when they are almost 1 year old and in prime condition for joining. Contact Mick on 03 5765 3245.
Bill Hermiston, "Karawatha", Deniliquin, breeds approx 250 First-cross ewe lambs annually from Wongajong $uperBorder$ and Caroonboon Merino Ewes. They are always top ewes. The 2007 lambs are entered in the Bendigo First-cross sale, day after the Melbourne cup.
Bill says that the switch to performance recorded Border Leicester rams gives him much more that just extra dollars at sale time. EVERDRY, Moama have 150 ewes and 250 lambs ready for the Rich River First-cross sale in Deniliquin. These are August shorn. Contact Julian Laffan on (03) 5483 6235 for details. He is willing to sell in the paddock beforehand.
Penny Brown, "Wongerup" Maroona (near Ararat) used Wongajong $uperBorder$ for the first time in 2003. She buys Wongajong rams that have been used in the stud for one year.
