Disease Free at Wongajong

Wongajong has a very low risk status for OJD and is free of Brucellosis, Lice and Footrot. Keeping the flock free of disease is a key priority. No other sheep are allowed onto the property and the hot climate and dry pastures at "Cal Col" also helps keep disease levels down.

Free of Brucellosis

The Wongajong flock is tested negative for Brucellosis within the NSW Agriculture's Ovine Brucellosis Accreditation Free Flock Scheme. The flock's accreditation number is Y383. The Deniliquin Rural Lands Board is also working to free the district of this disease.

OJD: MN2 10 points

The Wongajong flock is in the Riverina Rural Lands Board Zone, which has 4 points for very low incidence of Ovine Johnes Disease. We had negative blood and faecal tests in 1999, 2001, 2003 and 2007, leading to an MN2 status. In addition the whole flock has been vaccinated with the Gudair vaccine since May 2005.

Free of Lice

No lice have been seen at "Cal Col" for many years. However, all sheep are treated after the June shearing with IGR lousicide for the peace of mind of both clients and ourselves.

Free of Footrot

All sheep are free from footrot. The Deniliquin district is now also nearly free, after a continuing campaign by the Rural Lands Protection Board to eliminate this problem from all flocks.
